Heather Love

Author of "The Alchemy of Love," her debut memoir coming SPRING 2027

Heather Ann Love is a writer, artist, fine art nature photographer, educator, and U.S. Air Force veteran whose life and work explore what happens when pain is given somewhere meaningful to go.

Long before she began writing about transformation, Heather was living it. Her story has carried her through childhood loss and instability, coming out in a deeply religious environment, ten years in the United States Air Force working with military K9s, and eventually the classroom, where she discovered one of the great purposes of her life: helping little humans find expression for the things they do not have words for yet.

A graduate of the University of Maine with degrees in Studio Art and Art Education, Heather works across multiple creative forms, including painting and capturing the quiet, extraordinary beauty of the natural world through her photography. Her photos reflect the same instinct that runs through much of her work: to pause and take a moment to notice what may otherwise be missed. In a world that seems to be moving faster all the time, Heather is fascinated by the paradox that even as we are flying roughly 67,000 miles per hour through the void of space on a floating rock, it is only when we slow down enough to notice the beauty around us that we truly begin to see the world for what it is.

Whether capturing the world through her camera, helping children express themselves through art, or putting her own story into words through her writing, she is drawn to the places where beauty, identity, grief, humor, nature, and human connection intersect.

Heather is the writer of the forthcoming memoir The Alchemy of Love, a deeply personal exploration of conditional love, identity, betrayal, grief, and the long road toward unconditional self-love. In 2025, just six weeks after getting married, Heather’s marriage collapsed in a devastating betrayal involving someone she considered a friend. What initially felt like the destruction of the life she had spent years building became the catalyst for examining a much older story: a lifetime spent trying to earn, prove, secure, and hold onto love.

Rather than writing a book about what someone did to her, Heather began writing about what she chose to become afterward.

The Alchemy of Love follows that thread backward and forward through the many lives Heather has already lived: the imaginative child who survived through creativity, the teenager searching for belonging, the young woman who joined the military, the mother, the wife, the artist, the teacher, and the woman who eventually discovered that the love she had spent a lifetime searching for was not something another person could finally hand her.

Today, Heather teaches art in Maine, where she has the privilege of witnessing children discover their own creative voices. She believes art can become language before language is available, giving young people a place to put emotions, identities, questions, and pieces of themselves they may not yet know how to name.

Across her teaching, photography, visual art, and writing, Heather’s work is ultimately rooted in the same question: What can we create from the things that were supposed to break us? Her answer is still being written.
